This well-written article in Scientific American points to inflammation as the culprit behind Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. I personally found it to be really interesting because I’ve recently heard inflammation linked to various other diseases, including heart disease. What is the cause of the inflammation? There is some cool research happening in Norway, showing that (a) the breakdown of the body’s natural cleaning system — at the cell level — is causing Alzheimer’s and (b) when this cleaning system is turbocharged, the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease seem to disappear.
