Alzheimers Cause

The comman causes and risk factor's of Alzheimer's disease include the following:

Scientists do not yet fully understand what causes AD. There probably is not one single cause, but several factors that affect each person differently.

The greatest known risk factor for Alzheimer's is increasing age. Most individuals with the disease are 65 or older.

Family history is another risk factor. Scientists believe that genetics may play a role in many AD cases.

Epidemiologic studies have established that being female may be an independent risk factor for Alzheimer's disease.

A slow-acting virus has been identified as a cause of some brain disorders that closely resemble Alzheimer's.

Defects in blood vessels supplying blood to the brain are being studied as a possible cause of Alzheimer's.

Down syndrome, the loss of estrogen production, the lack of a formal education, and severe head trauma resulting in unconsciousness and retrograde amnesia may be risk factors for Alzheimer's disease.
